Day 51 - Choosing the lesser evil

I didn't have to go into work today. There are people living in our office and might be there for the whole week. So it was a pretty relaxing day. It's weird being back in Calgary. It still doesn't feel like home to me and yet it doesn't feel new either.

I miss all the people I met in Trinidad and the food there. I also miss Janice! haha! it's funny, you'd think that spending so many days with someone in such close proximity will make you want some space apart from them. Although, not having to wake up early to wake her up, not having her nag me about my love for fried food, not having her scratch me with her toe nails and stealing the sheets are really nice. But I miss talking to her. I haven't had someone to talk to in so long and I mean really talking, having deep, meaningful conversations.

Today is election day. I didn't go vote. Everyone told me to but I haven't been following any of the campaigns so I wouldn't know who to vote for. If I vote, it'll be based on careful investigation of all the various parties and not based on haphazard choice.  Although, when it comes to politics, I'm rather pessimistic and cynical. I don't believe that leaders keep their promises. All parties have their hidden agenda and will say & do anything to win.  Each leader will favour some groups or issues and ignore others.  There are bound to be unhappy people in the end and compromised promises. Either way, governments have not done or done anything which affects me directly yet so I don't really care who wins.  Some people say voting is important and to just chose the lesser evil. Well I don't want to chose any evil at all!! If they are all evil to some degree then I want no part of it! I don't want to be responsible for chosing any of the evil!  When the changes they make start to affect me directly, then I will get involved.  The only issue that seriously affect me right now are tuition fees.  Every year governments promise to freeze tuition fees, and every year my tuition goes up.  If someone forces me to sit down and then explain why it's important for me to vote and is able to convince me of it then I might vote. But I still don't feel at ease that I will be choosing some degree of evil to lead our country.
