Day 29 - finding friends
~ RAIN, RAIN, RAIN ~
Today's topic is about friends. How do you find friends? How did you come to be friends? Did you and your friends come together naturally or did you have to make an effort to become friends? When I look at the friends I have now, I know that we became friends because we all got along and enjoyed each other's company. We started talking and hanging out and had a great time together. Some people say that a friend is someone you have a lot in common with, someone you can share anything with but I've always thought otherwise. Ever since I was a kid, I have considered anyone who likes me to be my friend. We don't have to have anything in common! We don't need to have deep conversations or share that much as long as we can have a great time hanging out. However, I'm starting to doubt my position.
The reason I bring all this up is that I have begun to evaluate my relationship with my friends over the years. Why some friendships I have managed to keep strong and others have almost faded off the radar. I'm starting to believe that you're better able to hold on to a friendship when there is a strong connection between the two of you because of a common ground. Recently, I found myself hanging out w/ people who are older than me. Don't get me wrong here, when I say they're older than me, I don't mean they're like my parents age or anything that extreme. I would say they range from 5 years older to 10 years older. I've never had friends who were older than me. We're at different stages in life and have different interests and issues. So how come I'm friends with them when it seems we have no common ground? Because we do!
Something we all share so deeply that it breaks all barriers. We are all brothers and sisters united in Christ. No matter what stage of life we are in, what interests or personalities we have, we all are learning and growing together to be closer to Christ. I don't need to act differently around them or be afraid of them. Christ's love compels us to love others in return.
On another note, I met a girl at church this morning who invited me to her house for a pie-making party in two weeks. She said there would be lots of other girls there I could meet. It's really nice of her to invite me since we just met. I've never made pies before... sounds intriguing... perhaps I'll go. It's so interesting to be the new girl and experience what it feels like to be on this end. Of course, I could totally just be my loud-outgoing-crazy self but I think that scares people sometimes, especially since you're the new girl and people don't know you. I should stick with being shy and quiet and lay low for a bit...
