Day 98 - one last hike
Today, I went hiking at Lake Louise. It was my last outing here in Alberta and it was perfect. The weather was nice, the trail wasn't too arduous and the company was great! I still can't get over how beautiful the mountains and lakes are. As I stood up there at the very edge of the cliff, all I could see were mountains stretching infront of me for miles and crystal clear water flowing in between. People in Calgary are so lucky to have this at their doorstep. I stood there in silence, trying to absorb it all. I was once again awe-stricken by God's majestic creation. Only an all-powerful, all-loving God can create such beauty and perfection for his children to enjoy. I guess the closest I can get to this experience in Ontario are the Niagara Escarpments up north and Muskoka. Although I don't go up there nearly enough nor do I know anyone who likes to do this type of stuff. My friends are such city dwellers and suburbanners.
I also realized just how much bad drivers bother me. They've always bothered me but I never knew the severity of my annoyance until I was the passenger of a bad driver. I had to keep biting my lips from saying anything! I know I'm not the best driver in the world either but I wanted to shoot myself! I didn't say anything because I hate backseat and sideseat drivers so I told myself I would never be one but it was so hard!! Thank God I don't know a lot of bad drivers so I don't have to be their passenger too often. I'm so glad my mom prefers I drive when we go places together. She's the worse one yet! I don't know why they bother me so much because they're only being safe and cautious. I guess it's the vibe they give me. I get the sense that they're not very secure or confident in driving and that makes them more scary then the person who goes 160km/h. But I guess people can complain about my driving too. I get really cocky sometimes when I drive, I drive fast and I cut cars, darting from lane to lane. Driving really brings out the worse in me. Sigh. I miss driving. I feel so guilty when people here have to drive me. haha. I tell them to come to Toronto just so I can return the favour!
To me, bad drivers are people who:
- drive slow when they should go fast and drive fast when they should be going slow
- drive the speed limit
- don't step on the breaks until they are like 2ft behind the car in front (if you see the car in front breaking, slow down!!)
- hesitate
- don't know the size of their car and waste time (I'm telling you, you still have 1 meter left! )
- have the belief that the left lane is the fast lane even though there are no cars on the right lane but a train-line on the left
- don't know where they are going
- don't slow down when they go into bends (slow down as you enter the turn, speed up when you're in the turn!!)
This is different from the jerk drivers. Jerk drivers are people who:
- think they own the road and don't realize that there are other cars
- don't signal
- don't let others merge
- merges when the lane has already ended or they keep driving on the ending lane until the very last moment
- give you dirty looks when they think you're in their way
- make passengers feel unsafe in their cars
